Leadership Development Coach & ICF Mentor

Coaching As a Thinking Partnership
From the beginning, we clarify what you want to be different, how we will work together, and what a useful outcome looks like. I listen closely, ask direct questions, and challenge assumptions when it serves the work.
Clients often tell me they leave with clearer priorities, stronger language for the conversations in front of them, and next steps that they can take action on right away.
Two Paths, Same High Standards
I work with two groups of people who share something important in common. They value meaningful growth and want their growth to be real, practical, and reflected in how they work every day.
01
Leadership Development Executive Coaching
I partner with executive leaders and their organizations when the stakes are high and the path forward is often complex. You may be stepping into a larger role, leading through transition, or carrying responsibilities that shape teams, culture, and outcomes.
If you are looking for quick encouragement without deeper reflection, I may not be the right fit. My work is practical, thoughtful, and grounded in decades of leadership and coaching experience. Together, we strengthen your clarity, communication, and ability to lead steadily under pressure.
02
ICF Mentor Coach and Coach Educator
I also support coaches who want their work to reflect a high professional standard. That may mean preparing for an ICF credential, strengthening how you structure and facilitate coaching sessions, or gaining a clearer understanding of what the competencies look like in real time.
In our work, we focus on presence, coaching mindset, and practical choices you can apply immediately to strengthen how you think, listen, and respond in real sessions.
Why Work With Me
These are the principles that shape my coaching, my teaching, and every professional relationship.
Professional Integrity
I treat coaching as a professional practice. That means clear agreements, confidentiality, and an ethical approach you can rely on, so you always know what the coaching is (and what it isn’t). This level of transparency is essential for effective communication.
Inclusion and Equity
I work with deep respect for people’s lived experiences. I strive to create an environment where you don’t have to translate yourself, brace for bias, or wonder if you belong here. I do my best to remain attentive to power, identity, and systemic context.
Humanity
I don’t expect perfection, even if many of my clients bring perfectionism with them. We are humans and I bring compassion, curiosity, and humility to the work, because meaningful development requires room for complexity.
The Gap I Couldn’t Ignore
Before I became a coach, I spent years in business leadership and corporate talent development. In that world, I saw the same pattern again and again. People attended trainings, learned the language, and understood the concepts, but when they returned to the pressure of day-to-day work, very little changed. The gap between what people learned and how they led was often wide, and the cost of that gap showed up in communication breakdowns, strained teams, and decisions shaped more by stress than by clarity
As I looked for better ways to support leaders, I began partnering with external coaches. What I observed changed my view of development. Coaching created something training could not. It made room for reflection, clearer thinking, and sustainable behavior change. It helped people identify what was actually driving their behaviors and respond with greater awareness and intention.
Around that same time, I completed iPEC coach training. The experience changed me personally and professionally. It shifted how I understood leadership, learning, and what it takes for people to grow.
That combination of professional observation and personal transformation is what led me to build this coaching practice. I wanted to offer coaching as a serious, ethical, and practical approach to leadership development, and to contribute to the profession by supporting coaches in becoming skilled, confident, and grounded in professional standards.
From the People Who Know My Work
“She is a strategic thought partner and great mentor/coach helping me”
I started working with Brenda nearly 15 years ago. I retired two years ago and decided recently to pursue a leadership coaching business. Brenda was my first call, and together we have launched a new business that is just beginning to take off. Brenda with her in-depth knowledge has worked with me and guided me on the transition from being an executive to being a coach.
— J. Andy Newsom I Founder, Newsom Leadership Coaching
“Brenda’s coaching led me to several self-discoveries.”
Brenda identified my Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) evaluation taken over a decade ago among several evaluations as being the most transformative for me. She provided me a handout listing the stressors for IJST type-individuals such as myself. This handout is taped to my desk, helping me identify and cope with the stressors and reminding me of Brenda’s kind assistance in my career development.
— Douglas G. Hayes, PhD, MBA I Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, and Institute Professor for the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science at the University of Tennessee

FAQs
What coaching certifications or credentials do you hold?
I hold the Master Certified Coach (MCC) credential through the International Coaching Federation, the highest credential awarded by ICF and held by only about 4% of ICF credential-holders worldwide. I am also a Certified Mentor Coach through an ICF-accredited training program and serve as a university-based coach educator and lead faculty trainer in an ICF Level 2 coach training program.
What makes your leadership development coaching approach unique?
My approach is grounded in both executive leadership experience and master-level coaching practice. I have led businesses, built leadership development functions, and worked at the board level, so I understand the realities leaders face. Coaching with me is thoughtful, practical, and reflective. It helps leaders think more clearly, strengthen how they communicate, and grow in ways that hold up in real organizational life.
What kinds of clients do you typically work with?
I work with executive leaders, senior professionals, and professional coaches. Many are navigating growth, transition, increased responsibility, or the desire to strengthen leadership, communication, and coaching effectiveness.
What leadership philosophy guides your work?
My work is guided by the belief that meaningful leadership development happens through reflective inquiry. Coaching creates the opportunity to slow down, examine assumptions, deepen self-awareness, and make more thoughtful choices about how to lead.
